Creation, Continuation, Configuration, and Closures of Depts. and Progs.

This working group concluded in April 2023. You can find it's continuted work under Faculty Strategic Planning. 

This working group will examine the broad question of the best practices for the creation, continuation, configuration, and closing of departments and programs in Emory College of Arts and Sciences. 

The working group should consider and/or develop processes for shared governance on creation, continuation, configuration, or closure of departments. 

Recommendations should describe policies concerning communication and procedures regarding evaluation or changes to departments, including whether internal or external reviews of departments shoudl be shared outside the program/department. 

In considering these issues the working group should consult existing internal documents and conduct external benchmarking of policies and procedures for shared governance in these matters at other universities. In particular, the working group should consider ways that administration and faculty can work together in these processes.
